Tech Day on June 2nd
Tech day / practice / 1st pull will be on Saturday, June 2nd, in Guthrie Center. The track will be located in front of the new grandstands in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds. The easiest way to get into the pits will be from Hwy 44. Restrooms and concessions will be available all day. Tractors will be teched from 9am-noon along with practice, and the pull will start at 2pm. We will be breaking in a new sled driver, an overhauled sled motor, and hopefully a few new and overhauled tractors as well! For anyone who’s counting, that means the 2012 season starts in less than 6 weeks!! :)
More pulls added
We’ve gotten a few more contracts back, so there have been a few more pulls added to the schedule. You will notice that we are back in Waukee in July. This is the same event and the same location that we used to pull at. We are still working on the date and location for practice and hope to have that hammered out in the near future. Right now we’re shooting for the first weekend in June. I will post more details as soon as I have them.
Also something of interest that I forgot to mention before now- we DO have a sled hauler lined up for the season! Brian Keat will be hauling the sled for us. A big thank you to him for helping us out with that!
2012 Schedule
The first round of contracts for 2012 have been signed and returned. I have posted the dates on the Schedule page. I will continue to post more as I hear about them.
Spring Shootout- March 23 & 24
Prairie Pullers are holding the Spring Shootout again this year on March 23rd and 24th at the state fairgrounds. You can find entry forms here. They have added a 1050 Youth Stock class this year. Pulling starts at 2pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday.
Frank Kastner
One of our long-time members, Frank Kastner, was involved in an incident at his welding shop late Sunday afternoon. He was cutting into a barrel when it exploded, causing severe damage to his left arm. The blast shattered the bone in his upper arm, caused multiple compound fractures in his lower arm, and removed a portion of his elbow. Right now Frank is still at Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts, and I will post any new information as I receive it.
2/26 UPDATE: Frank is at home now and doing fine- he can even still move his fingers! His arm is healing for the next few months before they tackle his elbow. I hear that the doctors gave him several different elbows to choose from, and they will fix him up with his choice at Mayo once his arm has healed a little.
2012 Rules Posted
The 2012 rules have been posted on the Rules page. If you have questions or concerns, please contact one of your board members.
I will begin posting schedule dates as they become finalized, and a tech/practice date and location have not been set yet. Please remember we are still looking for a sled operator, so forward any leads on that to a board member as well!
Sled person needed
We are still looking for someone to haul and operate our sled at the pulls this year. This person would be responsible for transportation of the sled/scale to and from each pull as well as general maintenance. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please call one of the board members or send an email to the webmaster. Thanks!
MAPA 2012 rules coming eventually
For those of you who were unaware, the MAPA board of directors held their 2012 rules meeting yesterday. We’d like to welcome Mike Westphalen and Brian Keat to their first terms on the board. The rules for 2012 are currently in the proof reading stage, and I will get them posted as soon as they are finalized. Just to add to the suspense- we did add one new class to the association!!
MAPA Banquet on October 29th
The annual MAPA banquet will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 6pm in Guthrie Center. The location will be the same as the last couple years- the Guthrie Activity Center. RuthAnn will be sending out letters with more information shortly, but I wanted to post the date and time here for those who are working on their October schedules!
ISU pull on October 1st
The annual Cyclone Power Pullers sponsor pull will be on Saturday October 1st at 9am. It is in the same location as past years, which is west of Ames and south of Hwy 30 on V Ave. Please remember that Hwy 30 is under construction in that area right now.
The group has also asked if I could post a link to a survey that will help them out with customer input for their competition. The ten-question survey can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TKN5VZK. Please take the time to fill it out if you get a chance.
